ENGA LEADING THE WAY IN EDUCATION AND HEALTH

Enga has become a model province of PNG, in terms of infrastructure development, education and health.

The Provincial Administration is headed by Administrator, Dr Samson Amean and aims to fulfill the vision of Governor Sir Peter Ipatas in making Enga the Education and Health hub of PNG.
In his 5th term as Head of the province since winning the National General Election in 2017, Sir Peter Ipatas has focused on building national learning institutions for his people. He wants the province to achieve quality education. He has also invested in the health care system by providing better and efficient health care services in the province.

This has seen the construction of the new state of the art Enga Provincial Hospital, costing the National Government, donor agencies and EPG K527 Million, to complete this three-year project, which started in 2019.
EPG’s good relationship with the Australian Government has also seen the direct funding of $2.5 Million Australian Dollars (K5.7 Million) to Kompiam District Hospital for a five-year period by the Australian Government.

In education, EPG has signed a MOU with University of Goroka to offer Bachelor in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and English (STEMS) courses at the UOG Enga Campus. Governor Ipatas would like to see more Enga Students working in the science fields in future.

UOG have also signed a separate MOU with EPG and Enga Teachers College, by offering UOG’s accredited Teaching programs at ETC.

Enga College of Nursing (ECON) has also received new dormitories, and infrastructure building through the partnership of EPG, Wabag DDA through local MP, Dr Lino Tom, and the Australian government.

ECON has signed a MOU with Pacific Adventist University in 2019, for PAU to offer Bachelor in Nursing and Mid-Wife courses at Enga College of Nursing.

So far the Enga Provincial Government has invested well over K400 Million in Education alone in the last 25 years, since Peter Ipatas was first elected into parliament in 1997.

“We have achieved so much in a difficult province like Enga. We will continue to invest to make Enga the education and health hub of the Country.” Sir Peter Ipatas said.
His appeal is for the National Government to include Enga Teachers College and Enga College of Nursing in their yearly budget. He said the provincial government is spending the province’s money on students from other provinces who are studying in these two higher learning institutions.
