CANDIDATE FOR MORESBY NORTH WEST
ANNA KAVANA BAIS
ABOUT ANNA KAVANA BAIS
I served the Department for Community Development & Religion for twenty seven (27) years. Eight (8) of those years I served as the Secretary of the Department. I resigned in January 2021 to contest the Moresby North-West 2021 By- Election. I was the only female candidate amongst 41 male candidates. I finished in 6th place. It was a great first experience which prepared me well for the 2022 National General Election
During my tenure as the Secretary, I was instrumental in pushing forward legislation and policies focused on Protecting and Empowering families and communities. I lead reforms of major colonial Policies and laws. I also lead a good number of unprecedented first policies and laws in the history of PNG
My simple Motto:
TO BUILD PNG, WE MUST BUILD OUR PEOPLE. PEOPLE MUST BE PLACED AT THE CENTRE OF DEVELOPMENT.
Which people are we referring to? We are talking about Children, Youth, Women, and Persons with Disabilities, Men, Elders and families as a whole.
Families are the building blocks of our society. Families must be recognised as an institution that needs protection and empowerment. Families make up communities. When we build families we are building communities.
We will LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND if we focus our attention on building and empowering marginalised groupings such as Persons living with disabilities, widows, orphans, the illiterates, etcetera.

Q & A
What do you want achieve as a Member of Parliament?
First and foremost, I resigned from a top job in Government as a policy maker because for me, the missing piece of the puzzle was, and still is the political will to prioritise people empowered policies and laws.
As a Member of Parliament, I would like to represent the voices of woman, Children, Youth and families as a whole. I would like to represent the voices of Marginalised groupings such as our people with Disabilities, the informal Sector and our people of Motu Koita.
As a legislator, I would like to influence inclusive laws embracing the marginalised groups as well as protection and empowerment of families.
Family and Community violence is a major hindrance to progress in PNG. As a parliamentarian, I would like to influence the Government to prioritise and have zero tolerance to violence in our country. I wish to systematically roll out protection and empowerment services right into our wards villages.
Moresby North West Electorate will be used as a pilot electorate to trial out my focus areas for development.

I have always been a firm believer that when we focus our attention on protecting and empowering our people, we will build this nation. That is why I joined Peoples Party. Their Party Policies encompass most of my belief and what I stand for.
Peoples Party strong stand against Corruption and its focus on improving Law and Order also attracted me to this party. I admire their quality of leadership demonstrated by the achievements in their electorates and at the National level
My interest in running for office is to be supported by a strong party to give me the mandate to fight for the resources and influence.
