Freddie Kumai is an experienced leader, accountant and parliamentarian committed to promoting transparency, accountability and sustainable development for the people of Talasea and Papua New Guinea.

Before entering politics, Mr Kumai built a successful professional career in finance and accounting, developing skills in financial management, governance and organisational leadership. His professional background has provided a strong foundation for his work in public office and his commitment to responsible management of public resources.

 

Since being elected to Parliament, Mr Kumai has focused on improving essential services, supporting local development initiatives and advocating for policies that strengthen opportunities for communities and families.

 

His commitment to transparency and accountability led to his appointment as Chairman of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee in 2024, one of Parliament's most important oversight bodies responsible for scrutinising public expenditure and promoting accountability in government. He also serves as Deputy Parliamentary Leader of the People's Party.

​His leadership roles within both Parliament and the People's Party reflect his commitment to good governance, responsible management of public resources and strengthening public confidence in democratic institutions.

Throughout his parliamentary service, Mr Kumai has worked to support infrastructure development, economic growth and community programs that contribute to improving living standards in Talasea District. He has also been a strong advocate for transparency in government and effective oversight of public expenditure.
